Read-Aloud Tips from Children’s Books Authors (Series)

The greatest part about reading aloud to your child is the bonding that comes along with it! You’ve read all about the benefits of reading aloud to children, you’ve downloaded our handy ’35 Little Ways to Read Aloud’ (hint: it’s in our FREE resource library), AND you know all about how to choose books based on theme. Go ‘head you!

Now you must be wondering… but HOW do I read-aloud? What are some read-aloud tips that will really make the experience great?

We’ve got you covered! In this series, you will hear from our favorite children’s books authors! If you are in our Facebook Community, you may have seen them during a live read-aloud or featured on our video podcast. How awesome that they carved out even more time to provide some reading tips for parents!!

Our next children’s books author in this series is Victoria Maldonado!

Find out more about Victoria and read her tips below:

Three Tips for Read-Alouds

  1. Choose a book that both you and your child can enjoy. It’s great if you can engage with the book and explain why you like it.
  2. If you can find a book with a great rhyming cadence, choose one of those. As you read it, the children will clue in to the rhymes and possibly be able to predict the ends of the sentences as you go.
  3. I like to react to the book in a dramatic way as the story progresses (e.g., the character fell down a dark hole… my reaction “Oh no!”). This helps children realize that they are meant to interact with the books and not just be a passive observer.
