How to Teach Kids Bravery and Kindness
Many parents wonder how to explain courage to a child. Oxfrod defines courage as:
strength in the face of pain or grief…
As we know, most times, the best way to learn how to be courageous or brave is through life experience. But how can we expect a child, especially a child in elementary school, to have the amount of life experience required in order to really learn these things.
The best way to explain courage and bravery to a child is to model it through story.
We recently sat down with author, Victoria Maldonado, to discuss her book ‘Bartleby the Brave‘. Bartleby is a tiny sparrow that just wants to watch his favorite Bird Cup competition, but when a bully cardinal takes over his usual spot, how will Bartleby react?
The author, Victoria Maldonado, is the author of the Hearts Drawn Wyld trilogy (In Death We Part, Running in the Mists, Awake in Elysian Fields) as well as several anthology short stories, and the children’s books (Bartleby the Brave, Mieodsin el Valiente) and the upcoming Tears for the Butterfly. She also is the editor of The Evidence I Have Lived. She has been writing all her life and, when not authoring, she works as a freelance writer and editor in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and children.
