Our youth are encouraged to do so many things that we are not privy to. Once they leave our homes and go out in the world, whether it be to school, a friend’s house, or even a playdate– we have little control over what they encounter. Such a scary thought! What we can control are the themes and actions we model in our own homes. Books like Andre Clarke‘s help us to model perseverance, youth entrepreneurship, creativity, and determination. Star Gaze is the story of young Zachary. Zachary had a dream of reaching the stars and showing them to the world. Upon asking for a telescope for his birthday, however, he learned that this dream would be far-reaching if waiting on his parents to be able to afford such a gift. A determined young Zachary took matters into his own hands and explored a very unique approach to realizing his dream.
The author, Andre Clarke, tells us all about the inspiration behind his book in this episode. Clarke, the true perpetuation of the American Dream, migrated to the US from Jamaica at a young age. He adapted well and excelled at both sports and Academia. He used the self-starter attitude instilled in him from his father to start his entrepreneurial pursuits. Andre is passionate about investing in tech companies and trading commodities and foreign exchange. He’s adorned many professional hats, but the one thing that has remained consistent is his passion for tech and teaching children that their dreams are closer to reality than they think; a skill continuously being sharpened by his children. Father, brother, uncle, friend, proprietor; it’s the culmination of these attributes that have brought you Star Gaze.
